STATUS

Select clients

I am designing and building for select clients who are flexible, patient, and willing to work with me as I get Métier Vélo off the ground.

Price is currently $8,500 for a bare frame with Chris King PressFit30 Bottom Bracket and Integrated headset.  The cost of the frame is mainly the titanium lugs. A complete bicycle depends on your choice of fork, components and accessories.
Leadtime is approximately 12 weeks.

Métier Vélo is a little different from many custom builders because each and every bicycle is designed from the ground up. If you have a special project that requires a unique design and uses the advantages of 3D printing, it may be particularly suited to Métier Vélo. Please contact me and we can discuss it.

The breakdown

TIME & TITANIUM
The main costs of a Métier Vélo frame are design work and 3D printing titanium parts. The exact cost depends mainly on the amount of time & titanium in a particular frame. Other factors include your choices of cosmetics,  fork, and components.
PHASE 1: CONSULT
Free. Initial consultation is free.  At the end of the consultation period, I'll provide you with an itemized Design Proposal for your complete bicycle, including wheels and components.  In the proposal I'll set a final, total cost and an approximate timeframe.  Your Métier Vélo bicycle will not cost more than the final price in your Design Proposal.  I may need a bit of flexibility in your production schedule, but I will keep you informed.
PHASE 2: DEVELOPMENT
USD $2,000. If you decide the design proposal fits your needs and budget, I require a non-refundable down payment of $2,000 USD to develop your Métier Vélo frame (design, model, and prototype). The down payment is applied toward the final cost of your bicycle. If you change your mind and decide not to proceed past the development phase, I can't refund the down payment, but I will save your lug designs and we can resume production later.
PHASE 3: FABRICATE
USD $6,500. Before I print your parts in titanium, I require a non-refundable payment of $6,500 USD. Titanium printing is very expensive and I cannot use the lugs for anything other than your Métier Vélo bicycle. The payment is applied toward the final cost of your bicycle. After your lugs and parts are printed and prepared, I bond your tubes and lugs in the jig and prepare the frame for final assembly (cut threads, face bearing surfaces, bond cosmetics).
WHEELS & COMPONENTS

Competitive. To encourage you to order a complete bicycle, I offer highly competitive pricing on wheels and components, forks, powermeters, computers, and accessories for your Métier Vélo frame. I will quote your build as a complete package.  I offer competitive prices on SRAM, Shimano, and Campagnolo components.  I recommend wheels from Rolf Prima, Boyd Cycling, Reynolds, or Martindale Cycling Components.  Let me know what you need and I will work to get the best price for you.
DELIVERY
Balance. Before you can get your finished Métier Vélo bicycle, you'll need to pay the balance specified in your Design Proposal. The balance includes the costs of your components, fork, and wheels, as well as sales tax for Utah residents and shipping. If I can save you money along the way, I will.  The total cost will never be more than stated in your Design Proposal.
BALLPARK
Frame: USD $8,500 for an average-size frame with cosmetics printed into the lugs, Métier Vélo titanium logo on the downtube, and your name in titanium on the top tube.  Includes Chris King PF30 bottom bracket and Chris King integrated headset.

Complete Bicycle: USD $13,000 race-ready with SRAM Red 22 or Shimano Dura-Ace components and high-quality carbon fork and wheels.

LIMITATIONS

Almost everything, but not quite

BLACK-Ti
FORMAL
You can have any color you want, as long as the carbon is black and the titanium is...satin titanium.

I can do cool cosmetics with titanium bits, embedded colors in the resin, and designs integrated into the printed parts.  24k gold accents?  Can do! Better than paint.

If you absolutely, positively need, need, need a fancy paint job, I will prep the frame for painting and send your frame to the paint shop of your choice.
HARDTAIL ONLY
There are a lot of manufacturers that have put way more time into designing and testing mountain bike rear suspension systems than I could, and they've even come up with some adequate mechanisms, if that is your thing. Given the choices already in the market, the compromises required in rear suspension design, and the cost of designing and 3D printing suspension components, I've decided not to go there.  However, if you have a unique suspension need, contact me and we can talk.  It will be really, really expensive, but we can do it if you want.  Be ready to sell your yacht.

GUARANTEE

Lifetime.

QUALITY
You just spent your kid's college fund on a Métier Vélo frame; be assured it was worth it. If anything goes wrong with your Métier Vélo frame I will repair or replace it. If anything goes wrong with your Métier Vélo manufactured parts, I will replace them. Components, forks, and wheels are warrantied by their respective manufacturers.
CRASH
You race, you crash.  If you break your Métier Vélo frame racing, I will repair or replace it. Collarbones and components not included.
STUPIDITY
Just drove into your garage with your Métier Vélo on the roof rack? Just backed into a bollard with your Métier Vélo on the hitch rack? I'll replace or repair your Métier Vélo frame. And make fun of you in the Métier Vélo Blog.  Probably by name.  And I will remove your automatic garage door opener for you. Seriously, you can't get out of your car to open the overhead door with your weak little-climber arms? Components, forks, and wheels not included.
GOD
Did an earthquake crush your Métier Vélo frame? Mudslide? Lightning strike? Cosmic rays? I'll replace it.
LIFETIME?
Well, my lifetime, which may not be longer than yours.  I am 46 years old, which is more than halfway to dead if I manage to avoid fate for a reasonable time.

In practice you've probably got 25 years or so. But if I can fix your Métier Vélo frame, I will. Otherwise you get another.

We're all riders, after all.
