Métier Vélo is moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico! New Mexico State University got a new Director of Nursing, and Métier Vélo got a new shop.  The magic of the Internet means most things will not change: Métier Vélo will still feature the same great designs, materials, suppliers, construction, fabrication, and personal attention to clients.  I’ll be sad to leave the old Métier Vélo Atelier in Emigration Canyon, but in exchange many things will improve: a bigger shop, less time shoveling snow, permanently warm hands, and outdoor riding year-round.  I’m looking forward to life in Las Cruces.

​The first Métier Vélo Mountain Bike is a collaboration with Poly-Shape, an additive manufacturing company based in Salon-de-Provence, France.  As it happens, Salon-de-Provence is near the famous Roc d’Azur mountain bike festival—races, rides, and bikes—from 4-8 October 2017, and Poly-Shape will be there  with the Métier Vélo MTB!
The striking Métier Vélo MTB highlights the magic of titanium 3D-printing in a modern mountain bike design.  The frame is designed for 1x12 SRAM Eagle, with Boost spacing and room for either 27.5+ or 29” wheels.  It features 6/4 titanium lugs printed and processed by Poly-Shape, custom filament-wound chainstays and seatstays from Tim Crossman Composites, and filament-wound main tubes from RockWest Composites.   The lugs and tubes are bonded with super-tough West System G/Flex epoxy and jig-cured for perfect alignment. The asymmetric raised right chainstay leaves plenty of tire clearance, eliminates chain slap,  and converts easily to a Gates Carbon Drive.  Other notable  features include:
  1. a sculpted, organic aesthetic
  2. clean, no-nonsense, fully internal cable routing  for the rear brake, dropper post, and rear derailleur,
  3. custom dropouts that accept a Syntace X-12 thru axle (they are hollow!)
  4. a replaceable and swappable derailleur hanger from Paragon Machine Works (Shimano Direct Mount? No problem!)
  5. a beautiful organic, all natural UV-resistant finish.

We had a great time in Bristol at our first Bespoked UK show, 7-9 April 2017! We were in good company at Stand 57, with Steve and Rob of Rodford Built and Eric Estlund of Winter Bicycles as neighbors, and Craig Calfee and Rob English right nearby.   We were surrounded by Bespoked Award winners, current and former! The weather was beautiful (really!), and we really enjoyed Bristol.  The area of town around Brunel’s Old Station is being revitalized, and offers some great restaurants and pubs.  We particularly enjoyed the Mud Dock Café, Pub, and Bikeshop. Everything good in one place: bikes, beer, and coffee.  Not necessarily in that order.  
We were impressed by the knowledge and interest of everyone who stopped by to see the bikes and chat.  A special thanks to Tony Corke of Torke Cycling [torkecycling.com/], who got me out on some nice roads for a ride the Monday after the show, and who put the 622 through its paces. I was glad that Tony seemed to be pleased with the ride and performance of the 622.  As a professional bicycle fitter and former top rider, he rides a wide variety of bicycles and has a good basis for comparison. ​
 A highlight of the show was meeting Simon Richardson, former pro cyclist and current GCN presenter.  He did a short run-through of the 622 and gave Métier Vélo some great exposure on the GCN Channel.  He is as enthusiastic and genuine live as he seems on YouTube.  If you watch closely, you can see a Métier Vélo lug making a cameo on GCN’s 1 Million Subscribers video.

Prior to the show, I was featured as a Bespoked UK Framebuilder of the Week, and Métier Vélo was included in road.cc's Bespoked Preview.   We chatted with pinkbike.com and were included in their coverage of the show.  Check out the links below!

The Métier Vélo website has been updated with the pricing and order info for 2017!

For 2017, Métier Vélo frames will be available in two editions: Classic and Team.   Classic edition frames are US-sourced with lugs printed by GPI Prototypes on a 3D Systems DMP320 and tubes from RockWest Composites.  Team edition frames are global, and feature lugs printed by Kanfit3D on an EOS 290 and and full custom, filament-wound tubes from Tim Crossman Composites in Ukraine.

Frames are available as part of a complete bicycle package (best value) or with a fork, headset, and bottom bracket installed (a fuselage).

We had a great time at NAHBS 2017 in Salt Lake City!  Mountain Bike Pro and good friend Emma Maaranen helped out in the Métier Vélo booth and showed her custom do-it-all-road-bike.  Thanks, Emma! Judging by the amount of dirt on the #EDIARB that I cleaned off for the show, it spends at least as much time off pavement as on.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth to have a look a the bikes and chat. We even had a cameo by Marty Jemison! How cool is that?

Important Details
  1. A fuselage is the frame, a high-end carbon fork from ENVE or TRP,  a Chris King headset & BB installed.
  2. Prices are for typical road, gravel and ‘cross frames. 
  3. Prices for both editions includes 3D-printed Ti downtube logo. Classic includes rider name.
  4. Custom means you can customize geometry, tube size, tube properties, axle type (thru or QR), brake type (disc or rim).  Pretty much anything goes as long as the bike is lugs joining tubes with dropouts. 
  5. You can mix-and-match Team and Classic Edition options; contact me for pricing.
  6. Hard-tail mountain frames and tandems on request; contact me for pricing.

The Métier Vélo Super622 features 3D-printed titanium lugs paired with custom-designed, filament-wound carbon fiber tubes by Tim Crossman Composites exclusively for Métier Vélo. The geometry is based on the well-regarded Cannondale Super6 Evo with a few updates, such as graceful 8mm seatstays and a sloping, tapered top tube for the super-tuck position on descents.  It features the Métier Vélo integrated saddle mount and custom dropouts in 3D-printed titanium.  The frame is eTAP only, which keeps it super-clean, and the component selection features Utah-based suppliers TRP (brakes), ENVE (fork, bars, and stem), and Reynolds Cycling (wheels).
Frame details

​Custom filament-wound carbon tubes bonded to 3D-printed titanium lugs filament-wound carbon-fiber tubes, custom integrated saddle mount.  Custom rear dropouts are based around the DR4022 replaceable hangar from Paragon Machine Works. Frame with uncut seat tube, including integrated saddle mount and bottle boss hardware is 1,370g.  Complete ready-to-ride bicycle is 14lbs 5 oz without bottle cages.

Métier Vélo will be at Bespoked 2017!  Bespoked is the premier handbuilt bicycle show in the UK.  The list of exhibitors is truly impressive, and I’m humbled that Métier Vélo has been invited. Bespoked celebrates all handbuilt bicycles, but it has a particular focus on one-person shops, like Métier Vélo, where a single builder designs and fabricates everything about the frame, from start to finish.
